HIRING AND SUPERVISING AN EMPLOYEE WITH A DISABILITY
Offered by the Disability Access Services of the Department of Rehabilitation
Designed for supervisors and managers to learn the basic provisions of the California's Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and understand their responsibilities during the reasonable accommodation process.
As a result of attending this training, using a series of interactive exercises, case scenarios, and videos, participants will:
- Review the basic protections and differences between California's FEHA and the federal ADA.
- Learn the FEHA/ADA criteria used to classify job duties as "essential or marginal" and the impact of this designation on the accommodation request.
- Discuss the scope of the medical inquiries permitted under the FEHA/ADA and the confidentiality safeguards supervisors/managers must follow.
- Practice the interactive accommodation process and explore workplace solutions that may enable an employee with a disability to perform his/her essential job functions.
- Identify state resources and best practices for recruiting/interviewing job applicants and state employees with disabilities to ensure compliance with the employment provisions of the FEHA and the ADA.

Cost Per Person
